random thought

Does anyone else worry that in sleep deprived new parent state they'll do something stupid? For me, it's the dog. I am constantlu checking to make sure she is laying next to me. I am afraid I'm going to let her out and forget to let her back inside (and given that it's about 20• outside, this would be quite terrible).

Oh, yeah. I constantly felt like my mind was a sieve - stuff slipping through all the time.

The weirdest thing for me was when I started getting out and about again. It was like I had forgotten how to drive.

I often wonder whether or not I've remembered to feed the dogs...

Oh yes. Weird stuff happened to me and my husband all the time in the early days. My favorite was waking up to my husband trying to burp me (he thought I was a baby). He also once picked me up and was taking me into the nursery. And of course the pants incident from yesterday. So in our case stupid stuff all the time and it's still happening 9 months later.

Oh yes! I keep explaining to people I went back to work in September when the boys were 3 months old. They didn't sleep through the night until November. Those first two months at work were horrible. There were days I was driving home from work and realized I should not be out on the road. I'd come home and tell my husband he had to take our daughter to ice skating class that night, I should not be on the road!!!

I think there's a valid reason for extending maternity leaves until a year. At least we may have fewer accidents on the road caused by exhaustion.

When we brought AA home, even though she was 24 months, we were horribly sleep deprived (her sleeping at nigh took about 4 months); so glad that I had my mother stay with us awhile, really helped. Can you ask a Mother, sister, Aunt, to stay for a few nights and help? I wouldn't be shy about getting some help.
Hope you get to sleep soon!
