Has a good moral, teaches about a new subject matter, AND is fun to read? What's your suggestion?
Currently, ours is "Rosie Revere, Engineer," by Andrea Beaty. It has some really clever lines in it that speak to me, too, about dreams and ambitions. It has a terrific message about trying again after you fail, and features a girl engineer. And it is fun. So fun. My girls ask for it almost nightly.
But we're looking for other great books. Thoughts?

Well, the Lorax. That one makes me weepy. Tango Makes Three was very popular.
Here are some of our favorites right now:
Building Our House, by Jonathan Bean (the process of building a physical and emotional home)
The Dot / Ish / Sky Color / Going Places, by Peter Reynolds (drawing/creativity/thinking outside the box)
Miss Rumphius, by Barbara Cooney (lupines!)
Summer Birds: The Butterflies of Maria Merian, by Margarita Engle (butterflies!)
One Grain Of Rice: A Mathematical Folktale, by Demi (my number-loving boy really likes this one and the illustrations are gorgeous)
Wangari's Trees of Peace, by Jeanette Winter (about Wangari planting trees in Kenya)
Waiting for the Biblioburro, by Monica Brown (about someone and his donkeys bring books to rural Colombia; heard there is another good picture book about this story as well)
Rain School, by James Rumford (learning beyond the traditional 'Western' school)
Swirl By Swirl: Spirals in Nature, by Joyce Sidman (observing nature; gorgeous illustrations)
Frederick, by Leo Lionni (the importance of words/art/beauty in life)
